sins of a solar empire. i didn't like it at first because it wasnt homeworld but after playing it a while im really starting to get into it. it's nicely balanced, has tons of tech options, good combat once you learn some good unit combos, and has a huge emphasis on strategy. i would recommend that for someone who likes strategy games.
