Honestly I haven't looked into the legal battle too deeply, but from what I understand of it, Fox initially owned the rights to make this movie, then these guys went to WB and made the movie there instead. Even though Fox didn't actually make the movie, they owned the rights to it, it's the kind of thing you would think someone would have checked into during the whole filming/producing/marketing of the movie. So yea, WB took a big step in giving these guys free reign to make this awesome movie, but FOX owned the rights to it from the start.

I never heard of Watchmen before I saw the trailer for the movie (I never, never, never read comics). Did some research on it and then convinced myself to read it and was surprised at how good it was.
I've heard the director changed alot of stuff
absence of a certain squid
And now lol at this legal battle.
I just hope the movie comes out, so I can see if it does the comic any justice.

After 9/11 some felt the story's themes were too close to reality ever to be palatable to a mainstream audience.
thats the biggest line of bullshit ever. There have been plenty of movies released POST 9/11 with an apocalyptic view on a modern society. EVEN INVOLVING NUCLEAR EXPLOSIONS!! its a sad excuse really :(
just a crock of country shed spread bullshit!!!

Just another reason to actively avoid anything that has to do with Fox.

Easy to do since it's been forever since they put out a good movie.

If Fox legally owns the rights, as much as I dislike them, they're absolutely right in this case. How's it even a legal battle if Fox owns the rights? If they do, then it's case closed...

From what I read fox notified them numerous times throughout the development. All signs point to this being WB's fault as sad as that is to say. I don't see how Fox would lose this court case.

I know. Like I said, if they really do have the rights, I can't see this court case lasting much longer than a few minutes. All they have to point out is the legal documentation of their rights to it and voila, they go home happy.
Exactly how could WB miss that someone else had the rights?

I don't think it was as straight-forward as Fox owning the rights... rather an option to them which wasn't exercised in the past 10 years of the project. Along come Warner who actually take on the project and finish the film and now Fox believes they have a right to a slice of the profits pie.
From what I've read so far, the judge has ruled that Fox were not given sufficient opportunity to exercise their 'option' and thus have 'at the very least' some rights to the distribution of the film. A really bad decision for WB and fans imo.

Been contemplating making a rorsach sig tbh.
I do love The Watchmen, my rather dark humored uncle gave me the first copy of the collection, when i was like 9.
I probably have him to blame for how i turned out.

Except that it is that straight-forward as Fox owning the rights. Fox gave them notice that they were infringing on a property that Fox owned the rights to and WB carried on anyway. As much as I hate Fox, it's more WB's fault than anything else. We'll find out on the 20th how badly WB screwed the pooch.

An option to them? What do you mean? Like they only owned a portion of the rights? :ninja:
