View Full Version : Dont underestimate the wow carebears

I know a lot of people think all the wow users are 100% carebears.

UO was wildly successful at 500,000+ users. unheard of at that time

Although wow does have a lot of carebears. There is like 11.5 million people who play. There are a lot of people on pvp servers and have been introduced to pvp and MMO.

I think the WoW players and other MMO players, once exposed to an older school style with new age graphics. they will fall in love with it, the SAME way all us old schoolers fell in love with the games back then.

Do not think your better then them because you fell in love with something first. Back then the majority of people didnt even know what a MMO was. and by the time they did. UO was outdated and collapsing so they couldnt fall in love with UO, AC, DAoC and other MMO's.

I think there will be whiners and complainers. But I think a lot of people underestimate that a lot of people from wow do crave more from their pvp and pking experience.

Dont think I'm just a carebear complaining about people who complain about carebears.
I did play wow for about 3-5 months. But I also played UO for 4 years, EQ, AC, and all the other MMO at least for a little while. Although I primarily play FPS now that there isnt any good MMO's out there I like. I have a lot of hope for DFO and I do hope its a huge success and I love it. But after the disappointment of AoC and WAR, I try not to get too hyped.

if DFO is worthy and good, it will grow and grow and players from all games may fall in love with it.

I have been reading these forums for a long time and there does seem to be quite a bad elitist attitude among many, especially from the people who joined these forums when the game was a twinke in the sky.

While there are alot of LAZY people out there who cannot grasp the concept of search, it is in all our best interests to be friendly. You don't afterall want to harbour a bad community as most mmorpgs, people play them FOR the community. You bad mouth WoW players, but then act like the Barrens chat regulars and forum whores.

speaking of WoW....

Just becasue someone plays WoW does not make them any lesser of a 'pro' gamer than anyone else. In fact, most of the people i know who have played games for years and years have dabbled their feet in WoW - and its not hard to see why the game is so popular, it's very user friendly, it has perhaps more WORKING content than 99% of mmorpgs out there and the end game dungeons are generally very challenging.

Bad mouthing WoW is just being ignorant and 'elistist'

Ain't nothing wrong with killing some carebears...everyone i have talked to from WoW talks a big game about DF, but I still think the SB'ers are the best at coping with building cities only to be destroyed by other guilds, and sticking by and restarting instead of giving up.

It's just going to be very interesting to see how all of these different mmo backgrounds meld together in DF im definitely looking forward to it, even though it seems were out numbered lol.

whats TL, DR?
too long didn't read.
and tl;tr is too long to read

now seriously, did anyone of you guys even read his thread before you posted?

the tl;tr version was: many wow players have only experienced carebear pvp and this is why they liked it (and hints that many of them are tired of this playstyle). He hopes that DFO delivers enough to make them like pvp. He is right saying that many of them could become even better pvp'ers than the older players (what he forgot to mention is that the older pk'ers have more experience so they will have a headstart) and he is damn right, many could.

nice post btw OP.

I really don't think people's past gaming experience will determine how skillful they will be at DF. So both WoW carebears and UO vets will be dishing out some pain.

Couldn't agree more. Players must be judged on the individual merits, and how they react to challenges.

For all of you who jump down the throat of any WoW player who posts here, I have a question:

Did you ever play WoW?

If you did, then aren't you just as "carebear" as they are? After all, if they play DF then they aren't playing WoW, just like you.

If you did not, then just stfu and stop talking through your arses about something you know nothing about.

Anyone with a brain , knows that some people are winners and whatever game they come from they will do well because rather than moan and whine, which a lot of forumfallers *cough* Trolls do they will play the game.

What matters to me is the future not the past. Welcome all thats what I say.

Such a useless post. We don't care, stop posting utter crap. Who cares if people are old school or new school everyone will learn one way or another. If someone needs to flaunt that they are old or new school well then they need some attention for depression or other reasons and should go check out to the nearest psychologist for a checkup. It's okay to be old school and be proud or be proud of being new school but flaunting like a moron or making it a big issue out of it is just plain out retarded. Grow up OP.

I don't care who or where they came from, the bigger the player base the more they can update the game,
what I don't want are players that want to change the game from the orignal vision. If it is to hard or you don't like it, stop playing I don't to see another Vanguard fourm zerge of "change this I pay for the game too"

Yeah, I played WoW for a month after I stopped playing AC. I wanted to rip my eyes from my head. For anyone who says "not everyone in WoW sucks", that may be true, but WoW sucks. Its a no skill required, numbers crunching, auto hitting dickfest.

As far as the douchebag question above, let me answer simply. No. I am not as carebear as they are. I don't still play the pos game, I don't think its the greatest thing since sliced bread, I don't love my pets, think the animation is cool and want to see who has more healing potions when I get into PvP.

Regarding WoW players in DFO, they will either adapt, whine and scuttle like crabs from a flock of seagulls or quit. If they whine this board will become a literary hell from which the only escape will be not to visit. If they quit, we will praise the lord for relieving us of their stupidity. If they adapt no one will know the difference.

No one can deny WoW is, unfortunately, the most popular MMO in the history of the genre. And for anyone who played other games where PvP is a central part of the scene, no one can deny WoW sucks cocks to its deepest core. Its a shitty "make me feel good about myself" where you test your skills against the ridiculousness of the computer.

On occassion I drop into the 2nd worst game currently out, Perfect World. I do it to feed the beast and get some PK time in on weed gathering, MOB grinding, gear hoarding faggots. And every time I log out I say to myself, "OMG, how much longer to the 22nd?"

So don't assume the people who bash WoW don't know what we're talking about. If you like PvP WoW is a terrible waste. I don't care how much you like you're pretty avatar dressed in fancy robes, if you like WoW you're a waste of sperm.

We don't underestimate WoW carebears. We hate them. I played WoW, and I liked it, but I am capable of realizing that it is not the one true God of MMOs and that, in fact, deviations from it are likely to be a very, very good thing. WoW carebears come on this forum and go:

"Oh, please, Advento0ryne! Please make this game theme-parked with many quests and gear grinding. Please make the dungeons instanced so me and my recluse friends can organize a five hour raid without worrying about getting killed! Please make safe zones and, while you're at it, a PvE only server! Please get rid of full loot because I can't handle losing the gear I've grinded for for hours. Actually, can you just rename this game to World of Warcraft 2 and join us in fellating the giant gnarled cock that Blizzard wields? Pretty please?"

It grows tiresome after clone post #93256231. There are some people the community can do without, for the sanity of the dedicated and the future of the game. WoW carebears, not necessarily WoW players, mind, are some of those people.

if DFO is worthy and good, it will grow and grow and players from all games may fall in love with it.

I'm curious why did you get hyped about WAR or AoC?

Otherwise I agree with you to 100% there are 10 times as many players that want a game like Darkfall then the people on these boards. Most of them would just never look at a game that hasn't been released and much less at one without the publicity of something like AoC. It was just amazing to see the response AoC had with just promising a little bit more freedom and interesting pvp (which all turned out to be crap as well) and the same happened with WAR. Both games promised better and deeper pvp neither delivered even partially on that front and left hundreds of thousands of disappointed WoW players.

So why were the disappointed? Because what they actually wanted without knowing it was Darkfall and once word of mouth starts reaching the WoW players we will see a constant stream of them going to Darkfall.

Same in eve. Alot of people call themselves pvpers but infact they are just as much carebears as someone they call cearbear. They think just because they zerg some poor soul with a blob in a 1 cent/isk ship like a frigate they are pvpers. They are not. They are carebears.

What do you mean? You mean it is difficult to play a warlock? That is what you are saying? That you find it hard to play warlock?

Warlocks have had some low representation for years now, and TBH they were never much of an issue.

Nearly every other MMORPG is a fucking button spam with a few stuns and silences. This is a FACT. Group PvP prior to WoW was nothing more than a target calling and listening zergfest.

WoW has a lot going for it as far as skill is concerned. The combat is by far the most reaction based out of any mmorpg, but in the arena there are also a lot of extra things to worry about.

Now, instanced PvP isn't my ideal PvP, but I do respect WoW for having by far the most skill based combat.

1. So you agree that warlocks are not hard to play but are point and push button for pve and pvp.

Lemmi, if you can put up with instanced PvP what made you leave Guild Wars? While obviously not quite an MMORPG, the PvP there was definitely skill based (not at all item based seeing as you can get whatever items you need free as pvp gear) and took quite a bit of teamwork and coordination.

Since you played the game and sucked shit at it, i would only expect these answers from you.

Wait, why did I suck at WoW? Because I played end game rogue? Because I always did most damage in raids, killed most people in open world pvp and was highest ranked arena player in my guild? Ye, I haz no skillz.

My success has nothing to do with my point about it containing large amounts of carebears and skilless noobs.

I only played WoW for so long because I was ridiculously hooked and didn't bother with any other MMOs.

However, All I did in that game was exploit terrain to find new zones, or exploit terrain to grief other players.

I had 11337 Dishonorable kills on my mage by the time I left. My last kill was One of the breadmakers in Ironforge. :)

I don't like to think of myself as a carebear, As I will be very actively killing lots and lots of people in this game.

Do it your way, don't care about names given by strangers.

It's not like you will have a carebear tag when someone will look at your awareness in the middle of some forest, if seen at all. You think moving ground and prey, so hunter, just adapt to the free pvp differences and you will find it even more enjoyable I am sure.

Nobody likes people that brag about themselves so calm down.

There will always be people that play more then others. Those are the people that will learn faster and gather more items. Some of them are more focused then others.

@ OP: The forums don't necessarily hate all WoW players, but rather the ignorance that many WoW players bring with them. Many players have WoW as their first MMO, and are lacking in any sort of ability to comprehend "real PvP" (read; risks involved, not rock-paper-scissors). There is a self-perpetuating stereotype caused by many of the WoW players that post inane comments. (In addition, most of us hear about WoW way too damn much. Posting about it is like smacking a nest full of hornets.)

Also, it's funny for the older members to watch newbs cry everywhere when you fail to realize how forumfall works and make posts like the OP's. Honestly, after you've been here for a year you've already seem every discussion at least once, but trolling noobs is still a great source of entertainment.

Mmm, thank you.

Agree with above post. But I find that most WoW players I know aren't very carebearsy. The crowd I hang around is pretty mature.

First: UO peaked at 250,000 subscriptions.

Second: I think FPS players will have a leg-up when it comes to PvP on Darkfall. The only thing WoW did was get people to learn how to min-max, and get some half decent reflexes, combined with a drive for the best items to make their character as strong as possible. Which is sad, because then it was more about your character as opposed to your ability to play.

That said, I look forward to stomping WoW fanboys. If any even come to the game and stay long enough for it.

Sure if you have 11.5million players base there obvious will be some players, thinking of some new challenge and flock over from WoW to Darkfall.

But its not only about how a game looks.

Most who are now eager to play Darkfall as ex-wow players will be in for shock.

Darkfall is in so many ways so totally different that many wow players will whine for a while and then leave.

I think only fraction will say.

And btw this "Dont underestimate the wow carebears " is no concern at all carebears will not play Darkfall they hate free for all pvp and even more FULL LOOT.

And if even a few real carebears still try out Darkfall they quit in few days or maybe week tops.

Nice join date buddy, and Your rp sig just completes it.

Aug 08er talking shit about Sep 08er? And why are you talking about sigs? What happened to your shirtless man sig?

Anyway, of course there will be WoW players that will be good at Darkfall. Just because they play WoW, doesn't give them the carebear label. Just because they play a game that has "carebear" elements to it, doesn't make the people that play it carebear. They may be more likely to be a carebear, but it's not an automatic thing.

If a co-worker at your decent wage job went to Harvard, would you call him a retard? I think not. Just because that Harvard grad can't find a job that suits his skills, is he a retard? If a WoW player is playing WoW purely because it is the best MMO out there at the moment ( and it is, arguably, whether you like it or not ), will you consider him a carebear? Even if he played and loved UO?
